Self-assessment · FINMA Aufsichtsmitteilung 08/2024

Seven questions FINMA already asks about AI.

In December 2024 FINMA published what it looks at when a supervised institution uses AI: inventory, responsibility, data, testing, documentation, explainability, independent review (Aufsichtsmitteilung 08/2024). Pick one AI-assisted decision your institution makes today, in client onboarding, transaction monitoring, credit, or investment, and answer seven questions about it. Fifteen minutes. No registration. You get a one-page evidence-gap note for that decision.

This is a self-assessment against FINMA's published expectations. It is not an audit, a certification or legal advice. TAIA does not assess your institution; you do.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your answers and your note never leave your device. “E-mail me the note” opens your own mail client; nothing is sent until you send it.

This page is in English for now. FINMA's sentences are quoted in the original German.

00 Step 0

Name the decision.

Is the AI behind this decision built in-house, or bought or run by a vendor or outsourcing partner?

FINMA's 2025 survey: smaller institutions often use only externally developed applications.

01 The questions

Answer seven questions about it.

Each has three answers. “Partly, scattered” is for information that exists but is spread across systems and people; choose it only if that is the case.
